Humidity Control in Winter
With a cold snap on it’s way next week keep an eye on your humidity levels in your home. Set your humidistat to 10-15% and gradually increase it when the weather warms up but keep it between 30-50% max.
Keep your blinds up a couple of inches and window coverings open to let that warm air pass over the glass and wipe away any excess condensation.
Use your fans when showering and cooking and run them for a minimum of 15-20 mins after to vent out the warm moist air. Timed fan switches are excellent for this so you don’t waste energy if you forget to switch them off.
Vacuum out and clean your fans for optimal ventilation.
Monitoring your relative indoor humidity will pay dividends and help prevent frosted up windows and frost in your Attic from water vapour transfer through gaps, light fixtures low insulation etc.
